Description:

During the doctorate, a thesis on a research project is developed by the candidate in one of the research lines related to a research group of PPGQUI-UFU, under the supérvision of one of the accredited professors of PPGQUI-UFU. The PhD degree course at PPGQUI-UFU has a minimum duration of 24 months and a maximum duration of 48 months. The course curriculum composition totals 48 credits, distributed as follows:


Concepts/Grades:

  • "A" - Excellent - 90% to 100% grade; entitled to credit
  • "B" - Good - 75% to 89% grade; entitled to credit
  • "C" - Regular - 60% to 74% grade; entitled to credit
  • "D" - Insufficient - 40% to 59% grade; without credit
  • "E" - Failed - 0% to 39% grade; without credit

After completing the credit requirements as well as the verification of proficiency in two foreign languages, a Qualification Exam is mandatory, in which an Examining Board will evaluate the research work developed so far. The Qualification Exam will be carried out by a panel comprising at least four members and a maximum of five members, including the advisor. The last stage of the course consists on the thesis defense to be evaluated by an Examining Board in a public session. The thesis defense exam will be carried out by a panel of five members, including the research advisor. The fulfillment of credit requirements and the approval of the Thesis confer the title of Doctor in Chemistry.


SCHOLARSHIPS / FELLOWSHIPS or GRANTS:

Regarding the doctoral scholarships, please check the specific rules in the selection process notices or in the Scholarship page. In Brazil, most graduate programs, as in the case of PPGQUI-UFU, do not charge for tuition fees. Hence, all students may apply for grants (Scholarship page) to pay their expenses in the city of Uberlândia, Brazil. 

Sandwich Doctorate Program for studying abroad:

PPGQUI supports doctoral students to carry out part of their project abroad. Additionally, PPGQUI has the Institutional Internationalization Program of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU-CAPES.PrInt) which aims to contribute to the internationalization of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) through an articulated and convergent action among Graduate Programs (PPGs), following the Institutional Internationalization Plan of the Federal University of Uberlândia (PrInt-UFU).

CANDIDATE PROFILE:

The newcomer must possess a Master's degree and long-term undergraduate degree, completed and recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC-Brazil) in the field of Chemistry. Exceptionally, with authorization from the Collegiate, long-term undergraduate degrees recognized by the MEC in related areas may be accepted, such as Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Physics and Engineering.
